About Charlese Annette

Born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Charlese currently resides in Delaware and has always had a passion to create. Her creativity has taken many forms throughout her life from drawing, to ceramics, crafting, baking and designing cakes, photography, and so much more. In recent years her main creative focuses have been weaving, spinning yarn and painting. These various avenues of creativity have lead her to begin developing a collection of painted portraits incorporated into elaborate weavings. In 2011, Charlese received a BA in Fine Arts from Salisbury University and her Masters in Elementary Ed. degree from Wilmington University in 2019.

She began her fiber art journey in 2020 with macrame, and through that exploration, discovered weaving which has lead her where she is today. Once she fell in love with weaving, she started teaching herself how to spin yarn for her pieces. Since picking up fiber art, Charlese has challenged herself with each new piece to experiment with how far her materials can go, developing her color combinations and has allowed her imagination to be the guiding force behind each works she creates.

In 2024, Charlese was awarded Best in Show at the 11th Regional Juried Biennial Exhibition at the Rehoboth Art League for her piece, ‘EmpowerMINT’ (2024). She was also awarded a 2023 Emerging Artists Fellowship Grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts which was a huge catalyst in her pursuing her dream of creating full time. In 2022, Charlese was awarded Best in Show at the 11th Annual Delaware State Employee Art Exhibition for her piece, ‘Michaela Coel’ (2021), during her time as a high school educator. Now as a full time artist, Charlese also shares her creative passion with students across Delaware while partnering with the nonprofit organization, Delaware Institute for Arts in Education (DIAE).

Over the next few years Charlese hopes to share her art with more people around the world and inspire them to create. And to connect with more creatives while continuing to allow her creativity to evolve.
